Members
To become an Academy Member, self-initiated applications or nominations from Fellows or Members are considered and are recommended to the Members’ Committee. Membership in this class is open to representatives of all professional disciplines in the field of learning disabilities.
The Nominee for Member
The Nominee’s submission and all supporting documentation should be made in English.
Nominees should download the Personal Data Form for Member/Associate Member, complete the form and save it. Nominees should have an electronic copy of their CV and if relevant, at least two electronic copies of recent publications (peer-reviewed) ready for attaching to an email.
PERSONAL DATA FORM FOR MEMBER/ASSOCIATE MEMBER
In completing the Personal Data Form for Member/Associate Member the Nominee should provide comprehensive information and evidence so that the Members’ and Associate Members’ Membership Committee can make a judgement about the nomination based on the following required criteria:
- Has a terminal degree (e.g., PhD), and
- Has provided evidence of completed research or research in progress in the field of learning disabilities, and/or has provided evidence of being a practitioner in the field of learning disabilities, and
- Has published articles, reports or similar which contribute to knowledge and understanding of learning disabilities.
The Nominator for Member
The Nominator should send an email and/or attach a letter of nomination about the nominee to an email and send it to the Vice President/Chair of the Members’ and Associate Members’ Membership Committee listed below.
A sample of content of the nomination letter for Member/Associate Member has been provided. See Sample of Nominator’s Letter. In their Nominator’s letter, the Nominator should comment on how the Nominee meets the criteria for a Member. Nominators also need to provide information that can support the nomination. This could include judgement about:
- Caliber/quality of the work
- The impact of the work in the field
- The extent to which the majority of the work focuses on our understanding of learning disabilities

Associate Members

- Has made major contributions to the understanding of learning disabilities through research, writing, or clinical work including teaching, policy development, or dissemination of information.
